As AWEE's Faces of Success honorees shared their heart-wrenching
stories at the 14th annual luncheon, the audience celebrated their
efforts to triumph over challenges. The celebration continued
with fun give-aways and raffles. Thanks to the support of presenting
sponsor Wells
Fargo, and other lead sponsors such as Discover,
TriWest
Healthcare Alliance and MidFirst
Bank, we raised valuable support for our mission of changing
lives through the dignity of work. See

Dear Friend of AWEE:
I am often asked how individuals can make an impact on the lives of the
women, men and young adults we serve. The first thing that comes to
mind as we continue this season of giving is to consider giving a gift
that will be rewarding to yourself and others. Participation in the
state tax credit donation program is a simple act that will help
transform a life.
In this issue of our quarterly newsletter, we bring you amazing stories
from our 2008 Faces of Success luncheon, give you the opportunity to
shape the future of Arizona's workforce and celebrate contributions
from corporate and private donors.
On behalf of the board and staff at AWEE, we wish you Happy Holidays
and thank you for your continued support of and interest in our
life-changing programs.
Sincerely,
Marie Sullivan, President & CEO

Tax Credit Donations Needed!
 AWEE encourages you to take
advantage of this state-funded program to help us meet ever-increasing
workforce support needs in 2009. The Arizona Charitable Tax Credit
program allows taxpayers who itemize deductions to donate up to $400 to
nonprofit organizations at no cost, since the entire amount is fully
credited back to them via reduced taxes. Click

Spread the word! Input needed for
workforce development survey
In the coming months,
Arizonans will see new leadership assume control of the state and
federal governments, ambitious new programs introduced by Congress to
kick-start the economy, expanded federal aid to offset lost state tax
revenues and budget shortfalls that will require significant reduction
in state spending. What do these changes portend for Arizona
workers and the companies who employ them? You can help us find answers
to this pressing question-and many more-by reaching out to key
executives at large and small Arizona businesses and asking them to
participate in a groundbreaking online workforce development survey
jointly sponsored by AWEE and Republic Media.
Please take a few moments to call or email your colleagues and ask them
to participate by Friday, December 16. It couldn't be easier. All they
need to do is visit
the AWEE Website and click on the survey links provided.
Please be assured that all responses will be completely confidential
and that there is no obligation whatsoever for participants to share
their perspectives in news stories.
Once all survey responses have been compiled and analyzed, the
collective results will be provided to AWEE for program planning
purposes. This small investment of time and attention will reap
significant rewards in helping us plan more effectively for the coming
year.

Bank of America Banks on AWEE
With
all the talk about the credit crunch and the troubled state of the
economy, we sometimes forget about the variety of ways banks make
essential contributions to community life. Nowhere is this more evident
than in the case of the Bank of America Arizona, which has been
actively supporting our community, both directly through its employee
volunteer programs and financially via the Bank of America Charitable
Foundation. Click

Changing Lives with Cocktails &
Clothes
By
Judi Butterworth, Co-Chair of "Friends of AWEE"
Some
time during the early 80s, I asked my friend, Sandy Cowen, where I
could donate some work clothes I no longer wanted. "I give mine to
AWEE," she said, and proceeded to tell me about the organization she
had joined as a board member and its ambitious goals to help women
achieve financial independence.

Groceries, Gas and Haircuts
These are just some of the critical needs that must
be met to maintain confidence and the stamina for a successful career.
In tough economic times, basic purchases like gas or groceries or
simple acts of love and generosity, such as a gift for a son or
daughter, can become an insurmountable burden for many of AWEE's
participants.
According to AWEE Retention Specialist Clarie Clennon, "most of our folks are barely getting by
with the income they have and extra money for children's gifts and a
nice dinner is a far reach for them to budget in."
If
you or your office is looking for a unique way to support those in need
this holiday season, please email Louann
Phillips or call 602.223.4345 to find out how you can help
AWEE's participants and their families.
