Olivia and her four
children were in danger. She was in a marriage frought with
physical abuse. Faced with the option of being homeless, Olivia
made the decision to courageously escape the relationship
that kept sending her to the hospital. Her priest first directed
her family to seek shelter with the Mesa Police Departments
Center Against Violence. Knowing she needed more than safety
to survive, she was referred to Arizona Womens Education
and Employment, Inc. (AWEE). To assist Olivia get on her feet
and support her children for their future, AWEE quickly provided
a housing referral and childcare support while she began employment
and education training. AWEE even provided tuition towards
classes at Mesa Community College. With AWEE by her side through
the journey, Olivia became a full-time college student and
small business owner. Her cleaning service now employs two
women who are also recovering from domestic violence. Olivia
no longer struggles over providing stability for her family
she and her children are facing a bright future.
Each day for the past 23 years, women who face
equally daunting challenges have received assistance with
everything from parenting to resume writing through AWEE.
AWEE is a place where hope is restored, dreams materialize
and successful beginnings are created. AWEE was founded on
the premise that women want to be economically self reliant
and have a purpose in life. They want to contribute to their
families and their communities. AWEE lives its mission through
each person it serves
to change lives through the
dignity of work.
To ensure our ability to meet increased demand
for services and become independent of shifts in public funding,
AWEE is building a funding base that is 80% private, underpinned
with strong annual giving opportunities. Please consider a
personal or corporate gift to AWEE so we can continue to make
a positive difference for individuals looking to achieve long-term
employment and career advancement.
Here are a few examples of how your dollars
work.
- $1,000 significantly supports one program
participant through one years worth of assessment,
job readiness classes, job search and support, career placement,
and follow-up.
- $750 fills up to 35 participant gas tanks
during their search for employment.
- $500 will fund classroom materials for 10-15
participants, including assessment tools, textbooks and
computer training manuals.
- $200 will cover the cost of child care for
one AWEE participant for one week during the program and
job search period.
